Or make America greedy again for foreign money pouring into the emoluments basket on the back of a golf cart?
Or make America grieve again for children ripped from their parents’ arms, never to be seen again?
Or make America guilty again, of fraud, of sexual abuse, of election interference, of obstruction of justice, of dereliction of duty, of negligence, incompetence, stupidity, and cruelty?
Or make America grope again the genitals of our women?
Or make America gestapo again, with the army battering down your neighbor’s door while you cower in fear of reprisal, and peak through the curtains as another family is dragged into a black van and disappeared?
Or make America garish again, from golden escalators to fools-gold shoes and cards for trading our truth for lies, our virtue for shamelessness, our decency for cruelty?
Or make America gutless again, at least its political class, whose foreheads are already pressed against the trash-and shit-strewn floor of the Capitol’s Rotunda, while their lips are pressed up inside a monstrous pair of cheeks?
Or make America grasping again, dollars squeezing out between little fingers, heedless of the cost to other humans, other creatures, or earth’s freely given bounty, and deaf to the words of Jesus or the cries of heaven?
